Paschim Banga Awas Scheme 2026: Benefit Transfer to 10 Lakh Families

The very famous Housing scheme of West Bengal, i.e. Banglar Bari, is now renamed the Paschim Banga Awas Scheme. The current state government changed the name of the old Awas Yojana. So now, with the change of the new name of the scheme, the government also distributed the final financial aid to the beneficiaries of the scheme. So, as per the report, a total of 10 lakh beneficiaries received the same. With the release of the final payment, the state government has now also decided to release the financial assistance to the new beneficiaries of the scheme after the Durga Puja Event.

As we all know, under this scheme every eligible beneficiary will receive a total of Rs.1.20 lakh for the construction of the House. The amount is also released directly in their account, so that all the benefits will be given only to genuine beneficiaries without any kind of Discrimination.

West Bengal Paschim Banga Awas Scheme

Present Chief Minister of West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari, in their recent cabinet meeting, changed the name of the old Housing scheme of West Bengal from Banglar Bari to Paschim Banga Awas Yojana. With the change of the name of the scheme, the Chief Minister also made the final payment of the scheme to all the beneficiaries. We all know that under this scheme, a total of Rs.1.20 lakh in financial aid is given to the eligible beneficiaries.

The same amount is given to the beneficiaries in two instalments. So now this is the 2nd and final instalment, which is released to a total of 10,20,397 beneficiaries. Each of the beneficiaries gets Rs.60,000 as the final payment. So the government pays a total of 6,000 crore rupees for the distribution of the final payment.

Objective of Paschim Banga Awas Scheme

The objective behind launching this scheme is only to provide permanent and secure housing to the people who can’t afford the same. It means the poor people and belongs to the low-income group are the main beneficiaries of the scheme. And the government also wants to ensure that the benefits of financial assistance are only given to the beneficiaries directly with transparency.

Financial Benefits Given

  • Total Amount: In this scheme, the government provides a total of Rs.1.20 Lakhs to each of the selected eligible beneficiaries to construct a pucca or permanent house for them or for their families.
  • Instalments: The same amount of Rs.1.20 Lakhs is distributed in two instalments. In which Rs.60,000 will be given in two instalments. The instalment amount is given through the direct benefits transfer system.
  • Final Payments to Old Beneficiaries: 10 Lakhs beneficiaries from the previous government will get the Final or 2nd Instalment Payment of Rs. 60,000 from the new government on 6th August.
  • New Beneficiaries Payment: So now a total of 20 Lakhs beneficiaries have submitted the application to be part of this scheme. Now, all these new beneficiaries, after verification, are found to be genuine beneficiaries; then they get the first instalment of the scheme in the month of October, i.e. after Durga Puja.

Which People can Apply?

So now it is important to qualify for the conditions of the scheme set by the government. This time, the government is very strict in adding only genuine beneficiaries to the scheme.

  • Applicant who belongs only to West Bengal or the state is their Native Place to live.
  • Applicant is also an active voter, and you are not removed in SIR. If you are removed from the recent SIR, then you are automatically disqualified from the scheme.
  • There is no Pucca House available; it means the applicant is living in a temporary or Kutcha House.
  • Applicant or their family members having no property ownership in their name, like having a Pucca House in their name anywhere in India.
  • You must belong to poor families or have EWS or LIG Income category, i.e. your annual income is not more than Rs.3 Lakhs to 6 Lakhs.
  • In this scheme, the government also provides priority to people who belong to SC, ST and minority categories, and along with them, if you widow, disabled or aged person, then you also get priority.

Disqualification For Scheme

  • All families who have four wheelers vehicle or Tractors in their house do not need to apply.
  • You don’t have any refrigerator or Fishing Boat.
  • No family member in your house is in a government job, and your income is not more than Rs.10 K to 15 K per month.

  • For biometric identification need to submit your Aadhaar Card.
  • Your active Voter ID Number
  • Ration Card for your economic status, like BPL Ration Card.
  • Income certificate of the whole family issued by the concerned authority.
  • Bank account details with Number, Bank Name and IFSC Code.
  • Property ownership documents, if any.
  • Affidavit claiming no Pucca House is under your ownership.

There is no need to apply for this scheme if your name is already added to the scheme.

  • Have to open the online portal of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department of West Bengal.
  • Then, on the home page of the portal, click on Citizen Assessment and Report.
  • Have to choose your District Name, Block Name and then Panchayat.
  • Now, here, check the Permanent Waiting List ( PWL) and note that your name appears in the same List.
  • You can also apply offline through the help of your Gram Panchayat Official. The application form can also be collected from the BDO Office.
  • Fill this form manually, add the documents with the form and submit it.
  • Then, government officials conduct the field verification to check your current house. Then, if you are selected, the benefits will be distributed to you.
