The West Bengal State government is going to identify individuals from the state who were in prison during the emergency period in 1975 under its new Paschimbanga Loktantra Senani Samman Scheme. Under this scheme, the government has to identify a total of 325 individuals. After their identification, the government provides them with different kinds of benefits like a monthly Pension of Rs.10,000, Free Travel in all government-run buses and also the medical expenses of Rs.1000 per month. Recently, the government of West Bengal announced its monthly Pension scheme of Rs.10,000, Free Bus Travel scheme and Medical Assistance scheme of Rs.1000 to the individual who got the prison during the Emergency era in 1975 to 1977. This scheme was launched by the government on 9th August 2026 and is going to recognise such people at the state level. And then the government will honour them with different benefits.

Benefits Provided In this Scheme

• Monthly Pension: The first benefit which is given to them is monthly financial support in the form of a pension. All the 325 identified individual beneficiaries will be able to receive Rs.10,000 from the government.
• Medical Treatment Assistance: Not only the pension, but separate Rs. 1,000 will also be given as a medical allowance to the beneficiaries, and also free medical treatment services in all government hospitals available in West Bengal.
• Free Bus Ride: They all also get the benefit of free bus travel anywhere in West Bengal in all state-run buses.
• Family Benefits: If there is any family member or spouse who is surviving with the person also get pension extensions after the actual beneficiaries pass away.

AS we all know, from all over India, a total of 1,00,000 people were imprisoned during the 1975 emergency era and among them, a total of 5,000 people belonged to West Bengal. And according to the Chief Minister of the state, Mr Suvendhu Adhikari, this is the time to give then honor for their sacrifice. Because these people are the foundation of the state, we stand here.

Qualification Required

To get the pension benefits and other benefits of the scheme, the people have to meet the criteria of the scheme as given by the Government of West Bengal.

• The applicant must be verified as the residents of the West Bengal state during that time.
• The individual must have been imprisoned during the 1975 National Emergency, i.e. from 52 June 1975 to 21 March 1977.
• To get this pension continuity after passing the Actual Beneficiaries, then the spouse must be surviving only among the beneficiaries after verification; then he/she becomes eligible to receive the pension benefits in the scheme.

How to Select Under West Bengal 10,000 Monthly Pension For Prisoners of Emergency Era?

As per the report, we get the details that a total of 5,000 people from West Bengal state were jailed during the 1975 Emergency. Now the government wants to identify only 325 individuals of the same Era to provide the monthly Financial Assistance of Rs.10,000/-. This is the monthly Pension Scheme. This is also forwarded to the surviving Spouse of the beneficiaries.

First of all, you need to prove your eligibility, and then verification will also be done by the government. Government verified the individual with the help of official documentation, in which the following documents are required:-

• Record of Jail
• Order of Detention
• Official Certificate issued by the District Magistrates 
• Must have been detained during the 1975 to 1977 emergency period.

Once the verification is done and you are identified as Beneficiaries, then you get the monthly pension and monthly medical allowance too.

• Aadhar Card and VOTER ID Card for personal proof

• Photograph in passport size clicked recently
• For claiming benefits to Spouse or Dependent need to submit the death certificate of the actual beneficiary and relationship proof.

How to Get Benefits Under Paschimbanga Loktantra Senani Samman?

• You have to write the application form in a formal way to the District Magistrate of your Area.
• In the same application form, you have to add all your details like Your Name, the state you belong to, your address details and your all history, which is required for the scheme, like Jail History, i.e. Arrest Date and Release Date.
• It is important to attach all the supporting documents as your evidence and proof, and all the documents must be self-attested.
• Then visit your District Magistrate’s office and then submit the same.
• After collecting your application form along with documents, they issue the receipt to you. So that as and when you come to the office again for enquiry about your application, you can show the same receipt.

Verification Process

• Then the District Magistrate also review your form, and then local verification will be done with the help of State Jail officials to get your Jail History.
• After the verification is done, the DM approve your application form, and the final approval will be given by the Chief Minister of West Bengal after the submission of the final report of State Level.
• After all the verification is done, the Payment will be given systematically to the beneficiaries in their bank account.
