Newly appointed Chief Minister Mr Suvendu Adhikari made the new announcement by launching the West Bengal Arjun Vahini, which is known as the Disaster Force of the state. Under this Arjun Vahini, Government going to recruit retired soldiers who are below 40 years of age. So, in the first stage of this Arjun Vahini, the government has the plan to select 200 personnel, of whom 100 will get their duty in Kolkata, 50 in Darjeeling and the other 50 in Sundarbans.
The main objective of recruiting retired soldiers to make this force is to ensure that they get a rapid response in natural disasters in various areas of West Bengal State. Get more information about it.
What is West Bengal Arjun Vahini?
So here, first of all, you need to understand what Arjun Vahini is, which was recently launched by the state of West Bengal. This is the Disaster Force, in which government added the retired soldiers who are below 40 years of age. In its initial stage, a total of 200 soldiers are going to be recruited. They must be registered with the State Sainik Board and must be former Agniveers.
Then, after their selection for this disaster force, they get their job station in the prone area of the state, like in Kolkata, the hills of Darjeeling, and the Sundarbans. The Arjun Vahini was launched on 1st September 2026. This Arjun Vahini Force is working along the lines of the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force).

Job Positions, Salary and Contract Period
All these Arjun Vahini soldier having their 4 year contract period with the government, and this force will be tasked with quick response in disasters and emergencies. And the salary will be given to the soldier according to their job position. In this force, there are two designation will be available, which are known as Veer ( members of the Team) and Veer Nayak (Team Leader).

Additional Benefits given to Arjun Vahini Members
Not only the increment and salary but the insurance benefits will also be given to all the members of the Force as given below.
- In Case of Death: If by chance any of the members gets serious injury or death, then they will get Insurance coverage up to Rs.10 Lakhs.
- In case of Disability: if any of the eligible members of the force gets permanent disability, then they will get an insurance amount of Rs.5 Lakhs.

There is no any exam will be conducted by the Government of West Bengal to recruit candidates in this Board. All the recruitment process can be managed by the State Sainik Board directly. They have to check and manage the recruitment process with their registered ex-servicemen of West Bengal.
West Bengal Arjun Vahini Application Process By State Sainik Board
- All soldiers must register with the State Sainik Board after their retirement and then need to submit all relevant documents of their job.
- Then the State Sainik Board will issue them an Ex-serviceman identity card and enter them in their List.
- After it, the board will filter all the candidates according to their age for this Force.
- It is also important for the board to check their previous service record; it must be clean.
- Then all the selected candidates, according to their age and previous job record, will have to need to pass their physical and medical fitness.
- After completing the above-said formalities, the board will make a contract with the shortlisted candidates for one year.
- The maximum working period with this force is 4 years. So at the end of every year, the board will check the work progress and physical fitness of the candidates to continue the contract.Â
