In the state of West Bengal, there is financial assistance of Rs.1,000 given to the senior citizens of the state. The same financial assistance scheme is known as the West Bengal Old Age Pension Scheme, Bardhakya Bhata or Bardhoka Vata Scheme in West Bengal. The same pension scheme is run by the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department of West Bengal.

And the good news is that now, from 1st August 2026, the Bardhakya Bhata monthly Pension amount has been increased from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,500/-. So which means now all the Senior citizen with the age above 60 years will be able to get monthly Pension amount of Rs.1,500, which is disbursed by the government directly in the bank account of the beneficiaries through DBT system.

In the state of West Bengal, the old-age pension scheme was launched by the state government in 20210. The main motive for launching this pension scheme is to provide financial assistance every month to senior citizen who are unable to earn money in their old age. So to support them financial to provide them help to full fill their basic needs, this Old Age/ Bardhakya Bhata Pension schemes launched by the government and implemented by the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare of the State of Bengal.

In this scheme, every eligible beneficiary will get a monthly pension amount of Rs.1,000 under the Bardhakya Bhata Scheme. But now, from 1st August 2026, the new state BJP government has enhanced the same pension amount of Rs.1000 to Rs.1,500/-. This means now every eligible old-age beneficiary is going to receive a monthly pension amount of Rs.1,500  directly in their bank account.

Objective of Bardhakya Bhata (Old Age Pension)

To provide financial security in old Age, this scheme is implemented in the state. Eligibility Criteria For Senior Citizen

ResidencyThe applicant can be a permanent resident of the West Bengal State or residing in the state for more than 10 years.
Age LimitThe minimum age of the applicant is 60 years or above. But for physically and Mentally Challenged people, it can be a minimum of 55 years.
Income CriteriaThe monthly income of the applicant is not more than Rs. 1,000, and the applicant can belong to a BPL family.
IneligibilityPeople who are government employees, pensioners or supported by their family members are not eligible for the scheme.

  • Open the official WB Samarth Portal, i.e. Samarth.wb.gov.in.
  • Now, on the home page of the portal, you will find the link to Track Applicant Status.
  • Now, here you have to choose the scheme name, i.e. Old Age Pension Scheme and then choose the mode of search for Application Status.
  • You can check your status using Application/Beneficiaries ID, Mobile Number or Aadhaar card number.
  • You can select whatever you want; I choose Aadhaar Card.
  • So write your Aadhaar card Number and then submit.
